Some of his musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin, and Boyz II Men. Is of Italian descent. He has dual Italian-Canadian citizenship. His grandfather Demetrio "Mitch" Santaga comes from the village of Preganziol, Italy. A long-time devoted hockey fan of the Vancouver Canucks. Worked with his salmon fisherman father for six years. On fishing days, which normally began from 4:30am to 11pm with physically demanding work, he would listen on the boat to music tapes of classic standards made for him not by his father, an ardent Bruce Springsteen fan, but by his Italian-born grandfather. Last name is pronounced "Boo-blay." Producers weren't willing to sign him because they didn't know how to categorize his music. Michael was mentioned on the "Dum Diddy Dum Diddy Doo" episode of the show Two and a Half Men. Alan played by Jon Cryer went to a concert by Michael and got his autograph.
